The complete review of the BBC Proms concert which was disrupted by protesters is found here. Also, this website contains several prominent contemporary American composer's views on music critic's treatment of new music. I found John Corigliano's particularly compelling.

  1. Daniel, Thank you for sharing you reflections on being penetrated by Herbert's poetry. This kind of poetry is highly evocative, allowing one to make connections for oneself. In this way, it does not have to be "logical," as logic would rob us of the delight (sometimes shock or "astonishment") of making discoveries--the music of the cross, and of the human body in sacrifice. Prose denotes (ask Mr. Fish), poetry connotes (and can in-/evoke) images that disturb us into contemplating: what is this poem, this music, this life all about?
"Life is a mystery to explore, not a problem to solve."
Poetry at times provides a better compass than clear prose, which can be too pat.
Thanks again for sharing this, and also for the links!!!
